Junior Karting Classes

If your child is serious about getting into Go-Karting on more than just a casual basis, he or she will need to start taking Go-Karting classes. For children aged 8-16, there are over twenty Junior Go-Karting classes.

The Go-Karting classes described below are all recognised by the Motor Sports Association (MSA), which is the governing body for Go-Karting.

• Comer Cadet: This is for children aged 8-12. The Go-Karts use 60 cc Comer two stroke engines, and also has a clutch.

• WTP Cadet: This is for children aged 8-12. These Go-Karting classes use 60 cc sealed WTP engines, and also has a clutch.

• Junior TKM 2S: This is for children aged 11-16. Junior TKM is the most popular junior Go-Karting class in the UK. All of the Formula TKM junior classes use restricted TKM BT82 100 cc Piston-Port engines, which have a maximum speed of 65-70 mph. There is an optional clutch.

• Junior TKM Inter 2S: This is for children aged 11-16. They have the same engines as the Junior TKM 2S class.

• Junior TKM - 4S: This is for children aged 11-16. They use TKM 200cc four-stroke engines, with a clutch and restrictor to limit the speed at which the drivers can travel.

• Junior Blue: This is for children aged 11-16. These classes use IAME Linx 100 cc engine. There is also a clutch.

• Junior UK Clubman: This is for children aged 11-16. They use 125 cc Parilla Leopard engines, or restricted Piston-Port engines.

• Junior Rotax: This is for children aged 13-16. As the name suggests, these Go-Karts use Junior Rotax Max engines (FR125 Junior Max), which are usually Water Cooled ECO friendly 125 cc engines.

• Junior Rotax MiniMax: This is for children aged 11-16. Like the Junior Rotax classes, these Go-Karts use Junior Rotax Max engines, but the MiniMax class also has restrictors on the engine so that new drivers can’t go too fast before they have learnt to handle the Go-Kart properly.

• Junior Intercontinental A (JIA): This is for children aged 13-16. These classes use CIK 100 cc Piston-Port engines. There is also a clutch.

• Honda Cadet: This is for children aged 8-12. Honda Cadets Go-Karts use four-stroke Honda Gx 160 cc engines and a Cadet racing chassis, and can reach a maximum speed of 55 mph. There is also a clutch.

• Honda Junior: This is for children aged 11-16. These classes use two Gx 120 cc Honda (145 kg) engines, or two Gx 160 cc (152 kg) engines. There is also a clutch.

• Honda Junior Heavy: This is for children aged 11-16. These classes use Honda Gx 120 cc engines or Honda Gx 160 cc engines. Both are four-stroke engines, and have a clutch.

• Junior Gearbox: This is for children aged 13-16. These classes use TM85 MC and Honda CR80 engines, both of which are six-speed engines.

Many of these junior Go-Karting classes will have minimum weight restrictions, which mean that you need to be a certain weight to take part in the class. Some of these refer to just the driver, whilst others refer to the combined weight of the driver and the Go-Kart.
